On October 12, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a constructive meeting with her Swiss counterpart, Karin Keller-Sutter. During their conversation, both leaders reached an agreement to hold the 5th round of the India-Swiss Financial Dialogue early in 2024.
This forthcoming dialogue is expected to encompass various areas of collaboration, with a particular emphasis on fintech, the infrastructure sector, and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), as stated by the Finance Ministry in a post on [source name omitted].
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 4th G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) and the IMF-WB Annual Meetings held in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Furthermore, both Ministers expressed their confidence in reaching a mutual agreement to address the remaining issues, thereby setting the stage for the conclusion of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) and the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), according to the Finance Ministry.
Karin Keller-Sutter also expressed a strong interest in fostering closer cooperation between Switzerland and India in the insurance sector. Consequently, both sides agreed to incorporate discussions on enhanced cooperation in the insurance sector as part of the 5th round of the India-Swiss Financial Dialogue.
